Store Spotlight: Riverview Antique Market, Milwaukee

If you want a picture of what Milwaukee antiquing looks like at its best, start at Riverview Antique Market — a restored c.1892 building in the Menomonee Valley housing dozens of southeastern Wisconsin's top dealers under one roof.

The self-description is 'Milwaukee's finest antique mall,' and the inventory backs the swagger: 18th- through 20th-century furniture, historic Wisconsin art, art pottery, primitives, rugs, lighting, advertising, ephemera, and the architectural salvage the old building practically demands.

That Wisconsin-art angle is worth underlining. Regional paintings and prints are one of the smartest collecting lanes going — the supply concentrates locally, national dealers mostly ignore it, and the history is your own. Riverview is one of the few places that treats it as a serious category.
